Before and After

In early November a large winter storm hit the Sitka area with wind gusts over 60 mph. These storms can knock down large swaths of trees, rendering trails impassiable and changing the landscape dramatically.

Here we see the effects of the wind at the base of Bear Mountain. The popular Herring Cove Trail crosses the blowdown and willl be closed until summertime when crews with chain saws can move the timber off the trail.
